Visualizing knowledge and attitude factors related to influenza vaccination of physicians

2014

To characterize groups of primary healthcare physicians according to sociodemographic data, years of professional experience and knowledge of and attitudes to influenza, and to evaluate differences between groups with respect to influenza vaccination in the 2011-2012 season. We carried out an anonymous web survey of Spanish primary healthcare physicians in 2012. Information on vaccination, and knowledge of and attitudes to influenza was collected. Multiple correspondence analysis and cluster analysis were used to define groups of physicians. We included 835 physicians and identified three types. Type B were physicians with low professional experience of influenza. Types A and C were physician…

The dimensions of mobilities: The spatial relationships between corporeal and digital mobilities

2013

Abstract The aim of this article is to study how the corporeal and digital mobilities are spatially organised in relation to each other in everyday life. The dimensions of mobilities are modelled by using survey data (N = 612) collected from Finland in 2011, Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) and Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA). The results show that the combined use of corporeal and digital means of mobility affect the spatial organisation of mobilities only little. The results indicate that young people and students are more likely to benefit from their mobility in networking activities as they are equipped with a larger variety of mobility means than older people and pensioners. L…

Psicodinamiche di convivenza nel gruppo di lavoro: un'indagine esplorativa

2009

Psicodinamiche di convivenza nel gruppo di lavoro: un'indagine esplorativa - This work is focused on the study of psychodynamics of cohabitation in work groups, organizations and institutions. The generic aim is to explore the relations between organizational feelings and work group efficacy. The research has been carried out with a group of 120 Sicilian workers. In the present study we considered organizational commitment, justice, trust and power feeling. The multiple correspondence analysis point out two dimensions called: Collusion/Collusion Failed and Adhesive Professional Identity/Repulsive Professional Identity. The results point out relations between middle scores of organizational …

Exploring automatic grouping procedures in ceramic petrology

2004

Although a small number of studies have attempted to introduce automatic grouping procedures into thin section petrography of archaeological ceramics, the majority of studies continue to be carried out by non-automatic means. Although such an approach with the single observer grouping samples has a number of advantages, it is problematic when dealing with large numbers of samples. This paper aims to explore different coding systems and statistical analyses for grouping ceramic thin sections. In the example discussed a number of variables are defined, codified and analysed by correspondence analysis, classical multidimensional scaling, non-metric isotonic multidimensional scaling and Sammon …

Robust Principal Component Analysis of Data with Missing Values

2015

Principal component analysis is one of the most popular machine learning and data mining techniques. Having its origins in statistics, principal component analysis is used in numerous applications. However, there seems to be not much systematic testing and assessment of principal component analysis for cases with erroneous and incomplete data. The purpose of this article is to propose multiple robust approaches for carrying out principal component analysis and, especially, to estimate the relative importances of the principal components to explain the data variability. Computational experiments are first focused on carefully designed simulated tests where the ground truth is known and can b…

European public perceptions of homelessness: A knowledge, attitudes and practices survey

2019

peer-reviewed Background Addressing Citizen’s perspectives on homelessness is crucial for the design of effective and durable policy responses, and available research in Europe is not yet substantive. We aim to explore citizens’ opinions about homelessness and to explain the differences in attitudes within the general population of eight European countries: France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden. Methods A nationally representative telephone survey of European citizens was conducted in 2017. Three domains were investigated: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices about homelessness. Based on a multiple correspondence analysis (MCA), a generalized linear mod…

Combined effect of different factors on weight status and cardiometabolic risk in Italian adolescents

2019

Background The observed increase in body weight and cardiometabolic risk (CR) in youth from developed countries contributes to the global burden of chronic diseases in adult age. The aim of this work is to provide a patterning of the associations between different factors and the weight status and CR of the subjects involved in the Italian ministerial ASSO project. Methods This study involved 919 students from high schools in Palermo. Weight, height and waist circumference were collected by trained teachers; weight status was estimated by the BMI cut-offs for adolescents and CR through the waist-to-height ratio. Questionnaires were administered through the web-based ASSO-NutFit software. Ch…

Revista electrónica de investigación y evaluación educativa

2016

Spectral properties of correlation matrices for some hierarchically nested factor models

2007

We show that spectral methods, such as Principal Component Analysis and Random Matrix Theory, are unable to reveal the hierarchical (or nested) structure of a set of mutivariate data. We consider the method introduced in M. Tumminello et al., EPL 78, 30006 (2007) to associate a hierarchical factor model with a set of data by making use of clustering algorithms. This is done by proving the existence of a bijective correspondence between a hierarchical tree and a factor model.
